Farming in Graveyard Keeper 2

The Garden is a real location chip, not a loading-screen joke — plant first, then let zombies take the hoe.

Farming & Garden

Graveyard Keeper 2 still grows food next to corpses. tinyBuild’s 9 September 2026 short is seven seconds of a Keeper in a garden with the caption “Fresh organic produce from my garden cough graveyard.” That is not a recipe list. It is confirmation that horticulture is in the sequel’s joke and in the sequel’s loop. This page is the pre-launch farming guide: what the Garden screenshot actually shows, how it ties to zombies and The Town, and where the original game’s carrot-and-peat memory still helps without becoming a fake wiki table.

Release remains September 22, 2026. We will not invent seed prices. We will use location chips, the May zombie diary, and the Garden HUD.

The Garden is a named place

Official store shots already stamp Garden in the top-right location chip, the same way they stamp Graveyard, Town Workshop, Astrologer’s Tower, and Town — Port Area. The Garden frame is a working yard:

  • Raised beds and tilled dirt, not a decorative hedge maze
  • A log on the Keeper’s shoulder (you still carry raw goods yourself)
  • A lantern, benches, a grindstone-style station
  • A stone chapel corner bleeding into the same camera
  • A thumbs-up counter example of 5/20 — the same “score over 20” pattern as other locations
  • Three colored resource digits in some outdoor shots (examples in the Garden: 228 / 218 / 201)

If you only remember one sentence: farming is not a hidden DLC this time. It is on the same HUD as the cemetery. First-week order still starts here — see Getting Started.

Why crops exist in a corpse game

The original Graveyard Keeper used the kitchen garden as stamina fuel, donkey bribes, and a compost loop into peat. The sequel has not published a carrot quest. It has published:

  • Store copy that tells you to harvest flora and fauna while you bury the dead
  • A Garden location that looks planted, not paved
  • Zombies who, in the May 2026 diary, already know how to farm (that was their original DLC job) and now also run semi-automatic machines
  • A Town that needs consumer goods. The June diary’s punchline is that zombies are not the Town’s biggest problem — hopelessness and a lack of consumer goods are. Crops are how a cemetery firm sells hope by the crate.

Read rebuild the Town when you want the civic market. Read automation when you want the crate to move without you. This page stays on dirt.

Zombie farming versus your hands

Do not skip the hoe on day one. The Garden shot still shows the Inquisitor carrying a log. Zombies are the scale tool, not the tutorial. A sane pre-launch plan:

  1. Plant a small bed yourself so you see growth, harvest, and whatever waste pile the sequel uses for compost.
  2. Unlock enough of the tech tree that a zombie can stand at a farm-adjacent bench without you babysitting every click.
  3. Only then duplicate beds. The original’s 3×3 zombie farm was a late luxury. We do not know the sequel’s plot size. We do know Lazy Bear likes unpaid labor.

The May diary’s corruption joke still applies: comfortable, well-fed townsfolk become better sinners, which become better red-skull workers. A Garden that actually feeds The Town is therefore a morgue upgrade. Sort display graves on graveyard management separately so you do not bury a prize cabbage next to a −3 plot and call it landscaping.

What we will not copy from 2018

The first game’s Farming and Nature tree had Horadric certificates, hemp, wine, bees, and a farmer NPC south of the mill. None of those names are on a Graveyard Keeper 2 screenshot we trust. Do not buy seeds from a wiki that lists Horadric as if he already has a sequel desk. The September story diary says most characters are new, some old friends return, and you will learn what happened to others — see story and townsfolk.

Safe memories to keep:

  • Food is stamina. The HUD still shows a blue bolt bar.
  • Animals and plants are harvestable; the Steam page says so.
  • Donkeys historically wanted carrots. The sequel’s donkey is on the header art; the quest is not public. See donkey.

Unsafe memories to drop until a tooltip exists: exact compost recipes, silver-quality fertilizer tiers, prayer-for-shoots.

Combat and crops share a week

A garden that sits next to a siege is a garden that needs combat and Simple Barricades from the Building tree. tinyBuild’s other September short is literally “Slay all day to keep these zombies away.” Do not plant your only food line on the Town side of an un-walled street. The peaceful Graveyard in the June diary sits outside the city walls, near the Keeper’s base — that is also where you want beds if the game lets you choose.

Week-one farming checklist

  • Confirm the Garden chip and screenshot the bed count.
  • Harvest one plant by hand; note whether quality stars exist.
  • Assign one Possession-Free zombie to a nearby station; walk away for five minutes.
  • Sell or cook one stack in The Town if a vendor exists that day (some NPC mechanics stay day-gated — story).
  • Do not spend the pre-order Sauna bonus thinking it waters crops. The Sauna is a spirit-lifting building on pre-order, not a sprinkler.

After September 22 this URL should gain a crop table (name, bed type, days, product). Until then, believe the short: the produce is organic, the garden is a graveyard, and the joke is the economy.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Keepers ask before September 22.

Is farming confirmed in Graveyard Keeper 2?

Yes. Store shots name a Garden location, Steam copy mentions harvesting flora, and tinyBuild posted a garden produce short on 9 September 2026.

Can zombies work the farm?

The May 2026 diary says original-game zombies already farmed, and sequel zombies run machines. Exact farm-plot automation is a launch-day check. See automation.

Are 2018 crop lists valid?

No. Do not copy Horadric seed tables here. Wait for in-game tooltips, then we will add a table to this page.

Where should I plant relative to The Town?

The June diary puts the Graveyard outside the walls by the Keeper's base. Prefer that side until a siege teaches you otherwise. Pair with combat.
