Townsfolk and NPCs

The Town is where Graveyard Keeper 2’s supporting cast has to live, complain, and eventually lie down. Lazy Bear has not published a phone book. This page is a directory of places and roles we can already point at, plus the ethical joke that makes townsfolk a resource. For restoration logistics, use rebuild the Town. For the player, use Grand Inquisitor.

Places that imply people

Astrologer’s Tower. A named interior with a bedroom and a ritual floor of six colored circles around a crystal ball. Somebody sleeps under a star quilt. Somebody owns those papers. Whether the Astrologer is a quest hub, a vendor, or a story boss is a launch-day reveal. The room is not a coincidence; it is an NPC set.

Port Area. A hull under a tarp, a guitar on the dirt, glowing bottles, rain. Construction workers — living or Possession-Free — are implied even when the screenshot only shows the Inquisitor with a lantern. If boat-building is a questline, this is the shop floor.

Timber streets. The combat still is full of houses with nests on the gables. Those roofs are why you bother with zombie army defense. Empty streets do not pay.

Town Workshop. Zombies at benches, not townsfolk. The living probably place orders; the dead fill them. See automation.

When a location chip names a person rather than a job (we have job-like names so far), this page will add a row.

Comfort as a sin engine

The May 2026 zombie diary is the townsfolk design document hiding in a labor post:

  • Make their lives easier and more comfortable
  • Collect a steadier flow of sinners
  • If they were not corrupted enough in life, take parts and add corruption embalming

That is the sequel’s civic loop in three lines. Rebuild the Town is not charity. A happier Port Area is a better morgue later. The original game already sold meat to a restaurant; the sequel just gives the restaurant a street address.

If that joke bothers you, the preview is the wrong game warning. If it delights you, sort corpses anyway — display graves still want pretty skulls (graveyard).

Two undead populations walking the same road

Townsfolk who die cursed become the bad zombies that siege the city. Townsfolk you process in-house become Possession-Free staff. The living should be able to tell the difference if Lazy Bear’s “special mark” line is true. If they cannot, expect quests about public panic. We will not write those quests in advance.

The September 2026 story diary adds two civic roles without names: traders bringing goods from foreign lands and refugees searching for homes in a zombie-infested Town because the rent is low enough. Southern outskirts include another village, tavern, forest, swamp, church, and graveyard — more stages for NPCs, not a spoiler list. Several iconic original characters return; most sequel faces are new. See story.

Donkey: on the header art, brand continuity, role TBD. Dedicated page: donkey. Do not list it as a townsfolk and do not list it as the skull (that skull is not Gerry).

How to meet them in week one

  1. Unlock the Town path the game gives you; do not clip.
  2. Screenshot every new chip in the top-right.
  3. Talk to whoever stands still in the Astrologer’s Tower and the Port Area before you accept five jobs.
  4. Finish one home-restoration quest with zombie labor, then check whether the morgue intake changed. That is the diary’s experiment.
  5. After a siege, walk the street for survivors and for pathing. NPCs that cannot path are NPCs that cannot pay.

What we refuse to invent

No romance chart. No unnamed “best vendor.” No fake bishop sequel. No list of 40 villagers copied from the first game. If an original NPC returns, Lazy Bear can say so in a devlog. Until then, The Town is new people in an old joke.

After September 22, 2026 this URL should become a table: name, location chip, quest type, whether they sell, whether they end up on a slab. Until then it is a warning label: the customers are the inventory.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Keepers ask before September 22.

Are original NPCs coming back?

The 2 September 2026 diary says several iconic characters return, most faces are new, and you will learn what happened to others. No name list yet. See story.

Who is the Astrologer?

A named tower interior exists. The person's quest role is not public. See rebuild the Town.

Do townsfolk become zombies?

Cursed townsfolk are the siege zombies. Processed corpses become your Possession-Free staff. May 2026 diary.

Should I make the Town comfortable?

Official satire says comfort increases sinners. It also helps restoration quests. Do both, then sort the morgue.
